Dr Nazir specialises in all aspects of general adult cardiology such as chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, and general health checks for cardiovascular risk factor modification.
Biography

Dr Sohaib Nazir is a consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton Hospital and clinical senior lecturer at King’s College London.

Dr Nazir trained at Imperial College, London where he graduated with a BSc first class honours in management alongside his medical degree in 2007. After training as a junior doctor at Hammersmith and Charing Cross Hospitals, he went on to undertake specialist cardiology training in a wide range of centres in London. These include Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital, King’s College Hospital and St George’s Hospital.

He was awarded a prestigious Medical Research Council clinical research training fellowship in 2016, for which he undertook a PhD in advanced imaging for coronary artery disease at King’s College London. In 2019, he was awarded with an academic clinical lectureship from the National Institute for Health Research. He has presented his work widely at international conferences and published original papers in scientific journals.

More recently, as part of a team effort at King’s College London, his team was awarded with a £16million grant from the Medical Research Council to install one of the UK’s two Total Body PET scanners, which represents a new era for next generation imaging. He hopes to use this in the future to improve diagnosis and treatment for patients.

Clinical expertise

Dr Nazir specialises in all aspects of general adult cardiology such as chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, and general health checks for cardiovascular risk factor modification.

He has a specialist interest in heart failure and cardio-oncology – notably he is one of the few clinicians in the UK who are accredited by the International Cardio-Oncology Society, and the Royal Brompton Hospital is one of two centres in the UK with Gold accreditation by this society.

Dr Nazir is trained extensively in a range of advanced cardiac imaging techniques with formal accreditation at the highest level in:

  • echocardiography (British Society of Echocardiography)
  • cardiac MRI (accredited by European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging and the Society for Cardiovascular
  • Magnetic Resonance)
  • cardiac CT (accredited by European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging and the Society for Cardiovascular Computed Tomography)

He also devised several novel techniques using hybrid PET-MRI imaging. These experiences have developed his expertise in novel cutting edge technologies that he intends to advance patient care.

He combines his passion with non-invasive medical imaging and clinical cardiology to devise provide personalised strategies for patients.
