Professor Claire Hogg

Dr Claire Hogg is a paediatric respiratory consultant based at Royal Brompton Hospital, as well as co-director for children's services. She is also an honorary senior lecturer at the Imperial College School of Medicine.
Biography

After attending medical school and gaining a BSc at St Andrews and Glasgow universities, Dr Claire Hogg underwent paediatric and early respiratory training at The Children’s Hospital in Sydney, Australia.

She carried out her research and completed her final training at Royal Brompton Hospital before taking a consultant post at the Trust.

Clinical expertise

Dr Hogg’s clinical expertise includes:

  • paediatric respiratory medicine
  • a special interest in primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD)
  • other chronic suppurative lung diseases.
Research Interests

Dr Claire Hogg has carried out research into inflammatory markers in chronic suppurative lung disease, ciliopathies in lung disease and associated conditions and the development of diagnostics for PCD.

She has a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) post-doctoral fellowship grant to advance her team’s research interests in EM tomography of human cilia, an area in which the Trust leads research globally.

Teaching and Events

Dr Hogg manages the seminar teaching programme for all respiratory trainees at the Trust and also teaches visiting international fellows and students.

She lectures and gives presentations at national and international conferences held by organisations such as the British Thoracic Society and the European Respiratory Society.

As well as hosting twice-yearly PCD meetings for the National Commissioning Group, Dr Hogg organises the Annual Medical Advisory Board Meeting on PCD. She also holds annual meetings for cross-centre PCD teams to audit difficult cases.
