Dr. Alison Duncan has over 20 years’ experience in clinical transthoracic (TTE), transoesophageal (TOE), stress, and 3D echocardiography, has full BSE and European Accreditation, has a PhD from Imperial College London in “Physiological Stress Echo and Heart Failure” in 2004, and is Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London.

Since 2011, she has led interventional TOE for adult structural heart disease for imaged-guided TAVI, transcatheter mitral and tricuspid edge-to-edge repairs, transcatheter mitral valve implantations, and transcatheter transventricular mitral neochordal procedures. She is the UK Chief Investigator for the global Tendyne Early Feasibility Study and she image-guided the first worldwide Tendyne procedure in 2014. She is the UK Chief Investigator for the international RESOLVE-MR, CHOICE-MI, and Mitral Valve (TENDER) registries, UK Chief Investigator for the multicentre transcatheter mitral valve repair procedure using the first iteration Edwards Harpoon device, and Principal Investigator for the global Apollo (transcatheter mitral valve implantation) trial.

Dr. Duncan is Faculty member of many prestigious courses and has been an invited lecturer at numerous (inter-)national meetings and has published over 100 original articles in many peer-reviewed journals.

Mr. Cesare Quarto specializes in complex aortic procedures with a special interest in transcatheter based procedures and in extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and ventricular assist de-vices (VAD). His areas of expertise are in surgical management of the aorta and aortic valvular heart disease, TAVI and coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG), including some of the most complex aortic surgery, e.g. of the aortic root (including valve sparing); of the aortic arch; the thoracic descending aorta and CABG both on- and off-pump.

He trained as a cardiac surgeon at the University of Naples, Italy, where he graduated with honours and worked at Monaldi Hospital, Italy before moving to London in 2007. Since then, he has ex-tended his experience in aortic and general cardiac surgery. In 2013, he was appointed as a consultant.

Mr Quarto has jointly won international awards for presentations about the world-first transcatheter heart valve implantation programme at his institution, to treat mitral regurgitation in patients not suitable for open heart surgery. He has published a number of research papers on the histology of conduits for CABG; arterial remodelling after surgical injury; ascending aortic dilatation in bicuspid aortic valve and myocardial fibrosis associated with aortic stenosis.
